World Oil Reserves - Ranking of Countries by Proven Oil Reserves

Oil is one of the most important natural resources in the world. It is used to power transportation, generate electricity, and produce a wide range of products, from plastics to cosmetics. As a result, the countries that possess significant oil reserves are often major players in the global economy.

The table below ranks the countries of the world by their proved oil reserves. The term "proved reserves" refers to the amount of oil that can be recovered from known reservoirs with existing technology and at current prices.

At the top of the list is Venezuela, which has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, followed closely by Saudi Arabia and Canada. Together, these three countries hold over 50% of the world's total oil reserves. Other countries with significant oil reserves include Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
