Allain Manesson Mallet was an eminent map maker who was born in 1630 and died in 1706. He was a foot soldier in the Portuguese army under Louis XIV, who was promoted to the post of sergeant-major in artillery division. Allain Manesson Mallet was, subsequently, made the inspector of fortifications. He published a large number of books on military engineering. In 1683-86, his book the Description de l’Univers was published. The book contains many maps charts and views. He returned to Paris before his death.
