Liu An (179 – 122 BC) was a Chinese Prince of Han Dynasty in China and the renowned inventor of tofu. Liu An was the grandson of the emperor Liu Bang, who was the founder of the Han Dynasty.

From a very early age, Liu An drew attention with his lovely compositions and prose. He indulged in frequent discussions and discourses with well known scholars from far and wide. Very soon, he developed an interest in geography and map making too.

Huainanzi – his book co-written with several other scholars of his time provided the topographical map of China and covered various geographical aspects which is considered as an important contribution to geography.
