About Fresno County, California

Founded in 1856, the County of Fresno is located in the Central Valley in Northern California. The county seat is Fresno, which is the largest city in the Central Valley and fifth largest city in California. Spread over an area of 6,011 square miles, the county is bounded by the Coast Range to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the east.

Located in the heart of California, the county is also a part of the Madera AVA wine region. It is one of the most agriculturally rich county in the US. The county presents an unmatched natural diversity and recreational opportunities in unspoilt wilderness. Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park feature the majestic groves of giant sequoia trees. The Kings Canyon is famous for tall cliffs, green meadows, and stunning waterfalls. The Sierra National Forest offers plenty of hiking and skiing trails as well as sites for camping and picnicking. Florence Lake, Dinkey Creek, and Edison Lake are California's best kept secrets.

From fine dining to budget friendly events, the city of Fresno offers year-round things to explore. The Big Fresno Fairgrounds, Island Waterpark, Fresno Chaffee Zoo in Roeding Park, China Peak Mountain Resort, and Forestiere Underground Gardens are other family attractions in the county.

How to Reach
