Two types of cable cars continue to be in use in San Francisco- the Powell street car and the California street car. The Powell Hyde and Powell Mason employ the Powell Street car, while the California street car is used on the third line. The major difference between the two cars, from a visitor point of view, is the way the cars are 'poised' to move in the opposite direction once they have reached the end of a line. The Powell street car is manually turned around on a turntable. The California Street car has controls at both ends, and the operator simply moves from one end to the other.
