The city of Asheboro is located in the state of North Carolina, USA. It is the county seat of Randolph County. It was founded on Christmas Day, in 1796 on a 50 acre tract with the courthouse square on Main Street as the focal point. In 1996 the city organised an year long bicentennial celebrations of its founding day.
The city derived its name, originally Asheborough, after the name of Samuel Ashe, Governor of North Carolina from 1795 to 1798.
Asheboro has a number of well maintained golf courses, like the Asheboro Country Club, Asheboro Municipal Golf Course, Uwharrie Golf Course, etc. where one can enjoy the pleasures of the game along with other recreation facilities. The American Classic Motorcyle Museum located in the city has one of the finest collections of antique and classic Harley Davidson motorcycles in the region. The museum has a collection of bikes representing over six decades of American motorcycle history with a special focus on bikes from 1936 onwards. The North Carolina Aviation Museum dedicated to the conservation of military aircraft, is also located here. This museum has an impressive collection of vintage military aircraft, World War II military uniforms and also a unique collection of World War II newspaper features.
One's North Carolina travel would be incomplete without a visit to this beautiful city of Asheboro. The famous North Carolina zoological park is also located here. It is spread over a large area of over 500 acres of land. This zoo is one of the largest and finest natural habitat zoos in the country and features a wide variety of animals like zebras, alligators, rhinoceros, elephants, polar bears, seals, etc.
