2016 US Presidential Election
On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President of the United States. He strongly emphasized the slogan “Make America Great Again”. Trump focused on domestic issues such as offshoring American jobs, where he promised to bring back jobs to the US from China and Mexico; illegal immigration, Islamic terrorism and US national debt. At times, he has gone overboard in his statements. He called for a ban on Muslims entering America and even suggested the situation would not have been so bad if Charlie Hebdo victims had guns to defend themselves.

Still, Donald Trump did remarkably well in the caucuses and primaries. He bagged 36 contests while his main rivals Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich won in just 11, 3 and 1 states respectively. However, all his rivals quit from the race leaving him the presumptive nominee.
