History – The first flagship property of the Taj Group of Hotels was established by Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata on 16th December, 1903 in Colaba, Mumbai. It was known as The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower and became the first Luxury hotel to be established in India. Later Taj Group of Hotels expanded its global markets in the Western Hemisphere when it set up the impressive St. James Court Hotel near Buckingham Palace in London. More Taj Properties were established in Sri Lanka and Maldives.
