History - Sheraton Hotels & Resorts was established when the two entrepreneurs- Robert Moore and Ernest Henderson bought the Stonehaven Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts. They acquired three more properties in Boston and extended their operations in Maine and Florida within two years. By ten years, the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts became a brand name. It gained so much popularity that it became the first chain of hotels to be listed on the Stock Exchange of New York.
From 1949, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts expanded its international markets after purchasing two chains of Canadian Hotels. The first international hotel of the Sheraton Group was set up in Kuwait and was called ITT Sheraton. In the 1960s the first Sheraton properties were established in the Middle East and Latin America. In 1985, the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts became the first brand of hotels to establish it in the People's Republic of China. Finally the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts were acquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc in 1998.
