Snickers

Snickers is one of the most famous names among the world's biggest chocolate brands. It is one of the subsidiary brands of Mars chocolate company.

Though, almost known as a brand in itself, Snickers is actually a subsidiary brand launched by the Mars Incorporated chocolate company in the year 1930. Snickers is a candy bar confection created out of a peanut butter, honey and nut concocted core topped with roasted peanuts dotting a caramel layer covered with milk chocolate.

Snickers came when the Mars owners decided to launch a quick munch candy bar. They named the new product and brand after their favorite horse, Snickers. The popularity of this quick and affordable bite caught on and became the second best snack for movie goers after pop-corn. Later, in the year 1968, the brand launched the “Fun-Size” Snickers bar. This variety continues to be a favorite Halloween treat in America even today.

Soon, with growing popularity, Snickers went on to be sold in the United Kingdom and also in Ireland. However, in these two countries they sold under the name of Marathon; until the year 1990 that is. After 1990, Marathon was renamed to Snickers in an effort to standardize the products by the Mars Company.

Some of the Snickers candy bars that remain a huge favorite even to this day are the Snickers Original, the Snickers Cruncher, the Snickers Almond and the Snickers Marathon Energy.

A debacle happened in Australian in the year 2005 when consignments of the Snickers and Mars Bars were pulled out of the market fearing poisoning. However, the Snickers market is back and thriving in Australia as nothing was detected in their products on laboratory examination.
