Nutella

Nutella is one of the most famous names among the world's biggest chocolate brands and chocolate spreads.

Nutella is a product of the famous Italian chocolate company Ferrero. Known all over the world for its great and sumptuous varieties of chocolate, Ferrero launched Nutella in the year 1964. Nuttella is a chocolate spread and had a predecessor by the name of Supercrema. Since Supercrema was highly popular all over Italy, Ferrero decided to give a face-lift to it for the purpose of marketing it throughout Europe and if possible even globally.

So Michele Ferrero, the son of Pietro Ferrero, founder of the Ferrero Company, redid the Supercrema – right from the brand name, the packaging, the logo to even the ingredients – to give rise to Nutella.

This was in 1963. By 1964, Nutella was already in the market and a phenomenal success at that.

The original Nutella was rustled up by Pietro Ferrero himself with Hazelnuts. The use of Hazelnuts began due to the shortage of Cocoa beans during the World War-II. Hazelnuts were abundantly available in the Piedmont region of Italy. So Pietro Ferrero used them as a substitute to make the original Nutella called the “Pasta Gianduja”. However, this was the solid form of Nutella. Later the Supercrema was introduced. It was the paste form of the Pasta Gianduja. Then the Nutella was launched as a solution to the inconveniences rendered by the Pasta Gianduja.

As the name suggests, Nutella is nut based; hazelnut being the nut of choice. A kind of chocolate cream, Nutella is actually a nut and chocolate based spread.
