Chanel is actually a fashion house located in Paris that is popular globally as a brand name for clothes and other fashion accessories, like bags and perfume brands. It is also known as the House of Chanel. Founded by Gabrielle Bonheur Coco Chanel, Chanel is now owned jointly by the grandsons of one of the partners of Chanel, Pierre Wertheimer.
Initially a quaint headgear shop called Chanel Modes, the shop was opened in opened in 1910. It became quite a success within a year's time. So it ventured into the clothing lines for women mostly, though, tweed suites for men attained quite a lot of rave reviews too. Later, in 1921, the fashion house of Chanel, made its foray into the field of fragrances with the launch of the perfume brand “Chanel No.5”. Designed by Ernext Beaux, the perfume became quite a hit in town leading him to try his hand further. In the process, many more fragrances were churned and released as a part of an exclusive line, like the Chanel No 22, Cuir de Russie, Gardenia and Bois. The immense popularity of the fragrances led to the formation of the “La Société des Parfums Chanel" in 1924. There is even a perfume brand by Chanel called Chanel No 19, named after the date of birth of Coco Chanel, founder of the brand.
Later Chanel went on to make more such creations in the category of Perfume Brands that remain a hot favorite worldwide.
