Lebanon Election has achieved importance after the release from the clutches of their overpowering neighbor Syria. The first parliamentary election conducted in Lebanon was in 1992 and then voting was again done in 1996 and 2000. The polls form an important part of Lebanese Government and Politics.
The Assembly of Representatives is the name given to the national legislative body in Lebanon. The term of office is four years. Lebanon election is done on the basis of universal adult suffrage. A particular number of seats is alloted to the religious groups of Lebanon. The candidates must have the support of members of his religious affiliation as well as that of others.
The whole method and process of Lebanon election is based on the candidates' popularity among the voters. Lists of candidates are given to the voters. Eminent politicians may be at the head of a list. The other posts are then distributed among candidates selected by the head. Voters may choose candidates belonging to different lists and vote in favor of those candidates. Lebanon election to choose the Prime Minster of the country is under the discretion of the President who consults the members of parliament for suggestions and advice.
The lists of contending political groups in Lebanon election concentrate around the religious sections and divisions of the country. The most significant one is perhaps Martyr Rafik Hariri List whose head is the son of Rafik Hariri, Saad Hariri. The candidates of this list are based in Beirut. The Resistance, Liberation and Development List has been constituted by the Shia groups, Hizbollah and Amal. Other lists include Lebanese Forces Movement, Democratic Gathering, Free Patriotic Movement, etc.
