Yasser Arafat's Body To Be Exhumed
July 5 , 2012
The Institut de Radiophysique in Lausanne, Switzerland, has found extraordinarily high levels of polonium-210, a rare radioactive element, in the clothes, headscarf, and other personal belongings of late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, sparking suspicions that he may have been murdered. Arafat’s widow, Suha Arafat and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to exhume the body and continue investigations. Yasser Arafat was an iconic leader and championed the cause of Palestinian statehood. While most Palestinians had wondered about his death in 2004, no conclusive evidence of foul play has been found yet. According to 2006 reports, a former Russian spy was murdered in London using the same radioactive substance.
