Voters begin world's biggest election in India
April 8 , 2014
Some 815M people are preparing to start voting in India. The country is expected to cast votes for its upcoming leadership over the next several weeks and polls close May 12. Reports suggest that the count will be out four days after that.
The Indian Congress Party has been in power for the past 10 years but the Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be determined to win this time. The New York Times notes that this election could be quite historic.
The country's middle class is not happy about the widespread corruption and poor services from the current governing party. "We need good people in government," one voter said. Several other parties have candidates in the mix as well and there may be need for a coalition if there's no majority from any party.
