US slams Russian military aid to Syria

  • The event of Russia's sending of anti-ship missiles to Syria will only propagate President Bashar al-Assad's regime, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey said. The comments mark the first time that the US has officially confirmed the otherwise reported shipment.

    The top US military boss lebeled the move as “ill-timed” and “very unfortunate."

    It is speculated that these missiles are more advanced than those previously shipped.

    Russia, on the other hand, has commented that it is only fulfilling what it is obliged to do by contract. It has no interest in seeing Assad's regime in power, it added.

    Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel remarked the need for Russia to reformulate its military aid strategy. He further warned that the possibility of regional war in the Middle East if this continues.
