US: Resume firing squads for executions, says Utah lawmakers

  • Firing squads could be resumed to carry out executions in Utah if the governor of the US state gives his consent to a proposal by lawmakers.

According to the proposal, firing squads may be resumed if drugs for lethal injections are unavailable.

There has been a shortage of such drugs in the US.

Paul Ray, the Republican lawmaker who sponsored the bill, said a firing squad is a more humane and faster method of execution than deaths by lethal injections that have been botched up in several cases.
