UN urges Myanmar to end military operations in Rohingya Crisis

  • Amidst humanitarian Rohingya Crisis, UN Chief Antonio Guterres has urged Myanmar to end military operations. Due to the crisis, more than 500,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh. Antonio Guterres called the Rohingya Refugee Crisis, “the world's fastest developing refugee emergency and a humanitarian and human rights nightmare.” He further called the Refugee crisis a breeding ground for radicalization, criminals and traffickers which further increase in international tension.” Since decades, Rohingyas have been discriminated and persecuted by the majority Buddhist population in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. As per a UN spokesperson, it is “the largest mass refugee movement in the region in decades.”
