January 23 , 2015
Legislators in Thailand voted on Friday, January 23, to impeach Yingluck Shinawatra, the former prime minister, thereby banning her for five years from politics for a policy of rice subsidy she was involved with.
The attorney general has announced that Yingluck faces a criminal charge over the role she played in the controversial scheme.
Yingluck was removed as prime minister in May last year, with the military seizing power.
Of the 219 legislators present in the National Legislative Assembly on Friday, 190 voted in favor of impeaching her, according to media reports.
