South Korea marks one year since Sewol ferry disaster
April 16 , 2015
South Koreans have marked a year since the Sewol ferry disaster that killed 304 people, most of them school students.
Nine bodies are yet to be recovered from the site. Family members have demanded that the ship be raised so that the remains can be found. South Korean president Park Guen-hye has promised to take all “necessary steps” to salvage the vessel.
Investigations revealed that the ship was overloaded and subjected to an illegal re-design. It sank when the inexperienced crew took a sharp turn.
