Section of Mississippi closed near St Louis

  • A section of the Mississippi River near St Louis has been closed down because of high water levels and fast currents. Sources said that this was an active and busy route for commercial shipping. According to sources in the Coast Guard, the water levels could rise further on Thursday and the condition is likely to worsen. In Union, a town located 50 miles west ofSt. Louis, buildings are partially submerged due to flooding by Missouri, Meramec and Bourbeuse rivers.
