September 13 , 2014
Rob Ford, the controversial mayor of Toronto who has been diagnosed with an abdominal tumor, withdrew from next month’s mayoral poll.
The 45-year-old had earlier refused to step down after admitting to smoking crack cocaine in office.
He was hospitalized after complaining of abdominal pain. In a statement from his hospital bed, Ford said he was probably facing a “battle of my lifetime” and would “face this challenge head on, and win”.
