Repairs will force Big Ben to fall silent
April 27 , 2016
For a few years Britain’s icon – the Big Ben – will not chime. Media reports quoted British officials as saying that the clock tower is crumbling and requires urgent repairs. During the time the repair work is being carried out, the bell will remain silent. The repair work, which is expected to begin in January 2017 and will last around three years, will be the biggest job carried out on the tower in the past many decades. Steve Jaggs, Parliament’s keeper of the great clock, said that though the tower is not unstable, but it could get a lot worse.
