Powerful earthquake hits Costa Rica's north west

  • An earthquake rocked north west Costa Rica on Wednesday, leaving at least two people dead.

    According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 7.6-magnitude quake occurred beneath the Nicoya peninsula, around 87 miles west of the capital, San Jose.

    A tsunami alert issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has since been canceled.

    The quake was also felt in parts of San Jose and as far away as Nicaragua and El Salvador.
