Parents stop the hanging of their child's murderer

  • A recent update tells the story of Iranian parents who spared the life of their son's killer at the very last moment. The man who is being identified only as Balal was supposed to be publicly executed on Tuesday and was "screaming for his life" when he was blindfolded.

However, when the dead victim's mother went ahead to kick the chair underneath him, she merely slapped him and her husband got rid of the noose.

"Balal's mother hugged the grieving mother of the man her son had killed," Saeed Kamali Dehghan writes. "The two women sobbed in each other's arms - one because she had lost her son, the other because hers had been saved."

Balal killed the man when the two were 17 years old but the parents' forgiveness doesn't mean he'll walk free. They will have no say in prison time.
