Papua New Guinea: Strong earthquake generates tsunami
March 30 , 2015
Papua New Guinea was struck by a strong earthquake that generated a small tsunami, spreading panic in the South Pacific country.
There were, however, no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.
Following the 7.7 magnitude quake, a tsunami measuring 1.5 feet was reported in Rabaul, a harbor town close to the epicenter, the country’s national disaster center said.
Papua New Guinea lies on the so-called "Ring of Fire" zone, and earthquakes are common in the country.
