Oscar Pistorius gets five-year sentence

  • South Africa’s star athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison in the death of his girlfriend.

He was held guilty of culpable homicide, that is the killing was unintentional but unlawful.

He will need to serve a minimum of 10 months before he can plead for being placed under a possible house arrest.

The double-amputee runner has always maintained that he mistook his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, for an intruder when he shot and killed her.
