One dead, several hurt in second Louisiana plant blast

  • At least one worker is reported dead and seven others injured in an explosion at a nitrogen plant in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. This blast happened just a day after a lethal blast at another chemical plant just about 10 miles away. The blast took place at the CF Industries plant in Donaldsonville about 6 p.m. local time, when a nitrogen vessel ruptured, said the company.

The injured people were transported to several hospitals, said the Louisiana State Police trooper. Officials said that the workers were filling some kind of vessel using nitrogen and it got over pressurized, causing the vessel to rupture. Because there was nitrogen involved, there wasn't any flame but just a rupture which caused injuries and fatality.
