Omar Khadr, who became Guantánamo Bay detainee at 15, freed in Canada

  • Omar Khadr has been freed by Canada more than 12 years after US troops captured him at the age of 15 in Afghanistan and took him to Guantánamo Bay.

Justice Myra Bielby rejected government lawyers’ arguments that his release would hurt Canada’s relations with other nations.

Conservative politicians have portrayed Khadr, who was once Guantánamo’s youngest detainee and is 28 years old now, as a dangerous jihadi.

The government plans to challenge the bail order.
