A nurse in Spain has become the first person to contract the Ebola virus outside west Africa after she tested positive for the infection, according to media reports.
The auxiliary nurse was a member of a team attending to Manuel García Viejo, a Spanish missionary who was brought from Sierra Leone to Madrid for treatment. The 69-year-old Ebola patient died four days after he was admitted in a hospital in Spain.
The nurse alerted authorities of a mild fever on September 30. Later, her fever turned high, and she tested positive for Ebola.
