North Korea Successfully Tests New Type of Missile

  • A day after newly elected President Moon Jae-in assumed office in South Korea, North Korea carried out a ballistic missile test.

Reports say that the missile was launched from north-western Kusong, which reached an altitude of 2,000 km and covered a distance of 700km, before finally hitting the water in the Sea of Japan/East Sea.

The successful launch comes as a relief for the North Korean administration as the last two missile tests failed.

The US Pacific Command has reportedly said that they are yet to assess the type of missile tested by North Korea because the flight is not consistent with that of intercontinental ballistic missile.

Japanese Defense Minister Tomomi Inada has said that the tested missile is possibly a new kind of missile.
