North-east U.S. prepares for 'historic' snowstorm
February 8 , 2013
The north-east coast of the United States is set to be hit by a massive snowstorm that has already led to the cancelation of hundreds of flights.
The storm is set to cause power outages and disrupt travel as it arrives from the Great Lakes, bringing blizzards to parts of New England later today.
It is expected to peak on Saturday morning, east of Cape Cod.
Schools have already been closed in Boston, where up to two feet of snow is expected to fall.
According to the National Weather Service, the combination of two weather systems from the polar and subtropical jet streams would produce a "potentially historic" storm.
