Migrant deaths: UN chief Ban Ki-moon calls for 'collective response'
August 29 , 2015
The United Nations (UN) has said that “much more is required” to prevent migrant deaths after hundreds of migrants fleeing to Europe died in recent days.
Warning of a “crisis of solidarity”, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has stressed on the need for a “collective political response”.
More than 70 migrants were found dead in a lorry in Austria, and about 200 people are believed to have died when two boats sank near the Libyan coast.
Ban said the international community needed to show “greater determination in resolving conflicts” that force people to flee places like Iraq and Syria.
