Message in bottle reaches home after 101 years
April 9 , 2014
Richard Platz threw a brown bottle into the Baltic Sea at the age of 20 and the bottle found its way home after 101 years.
A German fisherman, who has previously found several wild things in the water, hauled the battle, which made its way to researchers at the International Maritime Museum located in Hamburg.
Reports suggest that Platz let go of the bottle while he was on a hike and researchers managed to find his 62-year-old granddaughter with the help of a genealogist. Angela Erdmann said the situation was "pretty moving" but mentioned that she had never met her grandfather.
The 1913 bottle is being called as the oldest one in the world and beat the one that had been holding the Guinness' record after being in water for 98 years.
