Mahmoud Abbas urges UN to support deadline for Israel's withdrawal
September 27 , 2014
Mahmoud Abbas has urged the United Nations security council to back a resolution setting an unambiguous deadline for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories.
Speaking at the UN general assembly, the Palestinian president accused Israel of committing “war crimes” in front of “the eyes of the world” during the summer war in Gaza. He described the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories as “racist and colonial”.
The United States, a staunch ally of Israel, said the Palestinian president’s comments were “offensive and deeply disappointing”.
