Israeli PM Netanyahu Makes Last Ditch Attempt to Avert Early Election

  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making a last-ditch attempt to save his coalition and avert an early election after the resignation of defense minister Avigdor Lieberman triggered a crisis. On Sunday, Netanyahu is all set to meet his cabinet’s finance minister Moshe Kahlon. Former Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned on Wednesday after Israel decided to accept a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, following intense 3-day violence between Israel’s IDF and Palestine’s Hamas. Lieberman not only resignation from the defense ministry but also left the ruling coalition, leaving Benjamin Netanyahu’s party with a 1-seat majority in the parliament. Meanwhile, Naftali Bennett has threatened to pull out his Habayit Hayehudi of the ruling coalition if he’s not given the defense portfolio.
