Hajj tragedy: Iran blames Saudi 'mismanagement'
September 26 , 2015
Iran has alleged that “mismanagement” by Saudi Arabia led to the deaths of 717 pilgrims in the deadly stampede during the ongoing hajj pilgrimage.
Iran, the region’s biggest Shia nation, and Saudi Arabia, a regional Sunni power, are bitter rivals.
About 850 people were injured in the stampede, the worst hajj tragedy in 25 years, and it came after a crane collapse killed over 100 people in Mecca earlier this month.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has ordered a safety review into the possible reasons for the stampede.
