French Finance Minister says Free Trade Agreement will not Happen Till US lifts Tariffs from Metals

  • Finance Minister of France Bruno Le Maire, while talking to media at the meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Buenos Aires, said that the European Union will not be able to negotiate a free trade agreement with the USA until and unless the later withdrew its tariffs on steel and aluminum. He also said that both Germany and France agree that EU can hold talks with the US only if the United States take the first step through elimination of tariffs. Le Maire went on saying that the trade war between EU and the US will only produce losers and will ultimately “destroy jobs and put pressure on global growth”. He urged the United States of America “to respect the rules of multilateralism” as well as respect allies.
