France bypoll: Hollande's Socialist party wins by narrow margin
February 9 , 2015
France’s ruling Socialists have won against the far-right National Front by a narrow margin in a by-poll, which is being seen as a test for French president Francois Hollande in the aftermath of the Paris terror attacks that shocked the country.
Hollande’s approval ratings have become significantly better for his handling of the situation.
The Socialist party candidate Frederic Barbier, who edged ahead of Sophie Montel in the Doubs by-election with 51.4% of the vote, admitted that his victory was partly the result of the French leadership’s “perfect” response to January’s terror attacks.
