First Death in the United States Reported in Washington, More Travel Restrictions Announced

  • The officials of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that a 50-year old person who was suffering from COVID-19 novel coronavirus has died in Washington (Seattle area), which is the first coronavirus death in the United States. On February 6, 2020, another American of 60-year age died at China’s Jinyintian Hospital in Wuhan. Reports say that the total number of COVID-19 infection cases in the US on early Sunday has reached 71. Shortly after the death announcement of the Washington man due to coronavirus, US President Donald Trump said during a White House news conference that more travel restrictions to high-risk countries and warnings are being issued for preventing the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has declared a state of emergency for preparing and responding to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. On Sunday, Nike has announced that they are temporarily closing corporate headquarters in Oregon’s Beaverton for deep cleaning the campus.
