Egyptian court orders retrial for Mubarak after appeal
January 14 , 2013
An Egyptian court ordered a retrial for former President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday after accepting an appeal against his life sentence over the deaths of protesters.
Mubarak, 84, was ousted last year following mass protests across the country and jailed in June.
Ex-Interior Minister Habib al-Adly will also be retried on the same charges.
Mubarak will also be retried on corruption charges for which he was acquitted in June.
According to his legal team, the evidence presented in the previous trial will be used in the retrial.
Mubarak, who led Egypt for nearly 30 years, is currently in a military hospital after injuring himself in a fall in his prison bathroom last month.
