Ebola crisis may not end till vaccine is developed, says scientist

  • A leading researcher has warned that the Ebola epidemic may not get over until a vaccine is developed against the virus, according to media reports.

Peter Piot, one of the scientists, who discovered Ebola in 1976, said a lack of urgency shown in dealing with the disease in its early stages this year had caused it to go “completely out of hand.”

Meanwhile, in a stark warning, the United Nations Population Fund has said that as many as 120,000 pregnant women could die within a year during child birth because of the breakdown in healthcare and fear of contracting the virus in hospitals in the Ebola-hit countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
