Democrats Elect Tom Perez as New Chairman

  • Democrats have selected Tom Perez, former Labor Secretary of erstwhile Obama Administration, as their new chairman. Perez defeated Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison in a hotly contested race by 235-200 votes. It took two rounds for Perez to make the cut. In the first round, Perez fell short of just one vote. In his victory speech, Perez vowed to wage an all-out war to deny President Donald Trump a second term. With this win Perez became the first person from the Latino community to lead the democrats. In a statement, former US President Barack Obama congratulated Perez and hoped for a united Democratic party.
