Car bomb kills 16 people outside Kabul Supreme Court
June 12 , 2013
At least 16 people were killed and 40 others wounded following a suicide car bomb attack outside the Supreme Court in Kabul on Tuesday.
The attacker drove a car laden with explosives at buses transporting court staff during evening rush hour, according to the Afghan police.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had aimed to kill judges that "obey Western powers".
The Taliban considers judges to be an extension of the Western-backed government of President Hamid Karzai.
The attack is the second major incident to be carried out by the group in Kabul in as many days.
On Monday, seven insurgents, including suicide bombers, attempted to take control of the city’s main airport before they were killed.
