Burkina Faso to 'return to civilian rule' after coup

  • Burkina Faso is set to return to civilian rule days after a military coup, reports say.

    An interim government will be led by president Michel Kafando, who will be reinstated.

    This announcement was made by Benin’s president Thomas Boni Yayi, who also met coup leader General Gilbert Diendéré.

    About 10 people have been killed and scores injured in street clashes since the coup in the African nation. The African Union suspended Burkina Faso’s membership after the coup.
