Australia: Police regain control of Melbourne prison after riot
July 1 , 2015
Police in Australia raided a prison to quell a riot after a clash involving hundreds of prisoners.
Visitors and staff had to be evacuated as the police eventually gained control of the Ravenhall remand center, which is located on the outskirts of Melbourne.
A smoking ban in prisons may have triggered the clash, according to the Corrections Department.
Officials said that several prisoners were injured while two members of the prison staff suffered minor injuries.
