Asylum seekers to be detained on Australian mainland
July 26 , 2014
A group of asylum seekers being held at sea for nearly a month will be detained at the Australian mainland, the country’s immigration minister has said.
Earlier, Australia had detained another boat of asylum seekers and returned them to Sri Lanka — this is when the second case came to light and was taken up by human rights activists.
The boat held at sea came from India and, after talks with Indian officials, it has been decided that some members of the group may be sent back to India, reports said.
