Asia hit by dengue outbreaks
October 8 , 2014
China is seeing its worst dengue outbreak in 20 years as 1,000 new cases of the tropical disease emerge each day, media reports say.
The fever spread by mosquito bites is potentially fatal. More than 21,000 cases and six deaths have been reported in southern China’s Guangdong province.
The infection is spreading in other parts of Asia too, including Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan. Japan is witnessing its first outbreak of dengue in nearly seven decades, with over 150 cases reported.
