As Israeli ground offensive intensifies, Hamas rejects ceasefire plan
July 19 , 2014
As Israel’s ground assault against Hamas in Gaza continues, Palestinians are fleeing their homes in large numbers, but the militant group Hamas has refused to agree to any ceasefire proposal.
Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, has warned that his country’s armed forces were prepared for a “significant expansion” in the ground operation.
At least 290 people, many of them women and children, have died in the conflict so far. An Egyptian ceasefire plan did not make much headway.
