1 in 4 Americans don't know the most basic science fact
February 16 , 2014
One in four Americans aren't aware of the fact that the Earth revolves around the sun, which Discovery says is "probably the most basic question in science."
The National Science Foundation asked the question along with nine others and got an average score of 6.5.
Some more results: 39 percent answered correctly that "the universe began with a huge explosion." and 51 percent were aware that antibiotics are not meant to kill viruses.
The poll was conducted back in 2012 but the results were recently released at a conference.
